Number of Times Seen – 5 (Twice in Theater, twice on DVD and 23 April 2013)
Brief Synopsis – A reboot of the popular Star Trek series which shows the origin of the crew being assembled.
My Take on it – JJ Abrams has always been a great director who knows how to work a great script and bring out the best in his actors. Basically, he knows how to tell a great story. I have always enjoyed all of his movies or tv shows (as a director MI3 (2006), Super 8 (2011), (as a producer) Alias, Lost, Alcatraz (as a writer) Taking Care of Business (1990), Regarding Henry (1991), Forever Young (1992) and Armageddon (1998). I’m was soo happy to hear that he was chosen to revitalize the Star Wars series, can’t wait to see what he will do with Lucas’ universe.
In Star Trek, he takes the cult 60’s show and injects new life into an almost dead series. He gives all of the crew new life and we get an action packed movie with great dialogue and plot twists. There were a few twists that weren’t explained enough, but even with those minor flaws, this movie is really worth seeing.
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are great choices as the new Kirk and Spock and I look forward to many sequels with them working as ship mates, friends and complete opposites who complete each other in order to outplay, outwit and out think the enemy. Rest of the crew are played by competent and up and coming actors, so it looks like they might have a tight-knit crew over the coming years.
The one thing that I thought was very weak in this movie was the baddie; Nero. We don’t learn enough about him that would explain his tactical wisdom and all we know is that his motivation is revenge. More info about him woulda made this great movie even better.
Looking forward to seeing these characters go where no one has gone before over the next decade or so of movies.
Bottom Line – Go see it! Abrams really knows how to keep the moviegoer glued to his/her seat. Cant wait for the sequel in May!!
Rating – Oscar Worthy (10/10)
