“If you ride like lightning, you’re going to crash like thunder.” – Robin
Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 May 2013)
Brief Synopsis – 3 interconnected stories about a thief, a cop and their sons
My Take on it – I found this movie very well made and extremely interesting. The first two stories about the thief (Ryan Gosling) and the cop (Bradley Cooper) were compelling and well written. The problem with this movie is the third story; it just isn’t as interesting as the previous two and makes the movie feel drawn out.
Gosling previously starred in Cianfrance’s previous directing effort; My Blue Valentine. I didn’t particularly like it, but he redeems himself here in my eyes. I have always known that Gosling will be heading for greatness since I saw him in The Believer (2001). He already has 4 golden globe nominations and even an Oscar nomination. I see him winning one in the next few years.
Ray Liotta and Eva Mendes have small supporting roles that don’t disappoint.
Bottom Line – First 2/3 of the movie is very well done, didn’t completely need the last 1/3. Still recommend this movie on the merit of the first 2 stories
Rating – Globe Worthy
