Number of Times Seen – Too many to count (9 May 2013)
Brief Synopsis – An army major must train 12 hardened prisoners to go with him on a secret mission behind enemy lines during World War II
My Take on it – I can’t even recall when I saw this movie for the first time or even how many times I’ve seen it. This is a classic World War II movie that has everything you need it in to be a successful movie.
- A great plot that isn’t too complex
- A-List actors (Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Richard Jaeckel, Ernest Borgnine, George Kennedy, John Cassavetes, Robert Ryan, Robert Webber, Telly Savalas and Donald Sutherland)
- Action and laughter
- Lots of dead Nazi’s
My favorite reference to this movie was in Sleepless in Seattle (1993) when Tom Hanks and Victor Garber make fun of women who cry during movies by pretending to cry while discussing the climax of this movie.
Bottom Line – Excellent movie, fun to watch, great performances by many well known actors. Highly recommended
Rating – Oscar Worthy
