Brief Synopsis – During WWII, British POW’s must work for the Japanese building a bridge that the allies wish to destroy by sending a team of saboteurs

My Take on it –  I cant recall exactly when the first time was that I saw this movie, but I was teenager and I loved it from the start.

Alec Guinness is perfect as the string willed British Colonel who values honor above all else and goes head-to-head with the Japanese Camp Commandant played by Sessue Hayakawa. Both were nominated for their performances, but only Guinness won.  A bit different than his iconic role of Obi-Won Kenobi, but he was actually cast against type in Star Wars (1977) not here.

William Holden was well cast as Commander Shears. I always liked him since I saw him in Stalag 17 (1953) and in Sunset Blvd (1950). He was even great in The Towering Inferno (1974).

One of the most memorable parts of this movie, was the classic marching song of the British POW’s – Colonel Bogey March. I even knew this song before I had ever seen the movie.

Winner of 7 Oscars including Best Picture, Actor, Director, Music, Cinematography, Film Editing, and Writing. Hayakawa’s Best Supporting actor bid was it’s only miss.

Bottom Line – Excellent movie, great performances by the cast, very compelling story, A very worthy winner of 7 Oscars. Very Highly recommended. Go see it!!!
