Hell is for Heroes (1962)

hifh“Hey, how you doin’, buddy? As you can see, we eat very well around here. Hey, on the up and up, if there’s anything you might need, I’m the guy to see around here. If I don’t have it, I can get it for you.” – Pvt Dave Corby

Number of Times Seen – 1  (23 Jun 2013)

Brief Synopsis – A squad of soldiers in WWII must defend a large area by themselves against the advancing NAZI forces

My Take on it – I decided to watch this movie since I had heard great things about it, but was pretty unimpressed.

It was a mediocre WWII film at best.

The story was actually pretty good and had potential, but I dont think it was done well enough.  Steve McQueen is an actor who I have enjoyed a majority of his movies, but in this one, his character wasn’t really sympathetic.

The only character I liked and cared about was Bob Newhart, who plays a young non-combat soldier stuck in the war zone in his movie debut.  Newhart was a young stand up who was hired to deliver lots of comedic lines during a scene where they were trying to confuse the enemy.

Bottom Line – Mediocre WWII action movie. Saved by The film debut of Bob Newhart.

Rating – BAFTA worthy
