“I’ll die before Shelly Runyon checkmates me.” – President Jackson Evans
Number of Times Seen – at least 5 (23 Jul 2001 in Theater, DVD, 27 Jun 2013)
Brief Synopsis – After the death of the vice-president, the President chooses a woman to be his VP nominee
My Take on it –I remember seeing this in the theater and loved it. I have always been a fan of political movies and this is no exception.
Rod Lurie has always been a favorite of mine and this is my favorite of his movies. His other two great movie, Deterrence (1998) and The Last Castle (2001) are both also great movies, but this one is the best.
He supposedly wrote this script with Joan Allen in mind for the title role.
Great supporting cast of Gary Oldman, Jeff Bridges, Christian Slater, Sam Elliott, William Peterson, Saul Rubinek, Philip Baker Hall and Kathryn Morris.
I agree with President Obama that President Evans (played by Bridges) is one of the best Fictional movie Presidents ever.
Bottom Line – Great political movie. Lurie at his best. Highly Recommended.
Rating – Oscar Worthy
