Number of Times Seen –  1  (8 Jul 2013)

Brief Synopsis – GI Joe must once again track down and stop COBRA who are determined to rule the world.

My Take on it – As a kid, I loved everything about GI Joe; I had all the comics, and lots of the action figures. I had seen every one of the animated cartoon episodes.

The one thing that always irked me was that in both the TV show and in the comics, both the good guys and the bad guys were supposed to be trained soldiers, but they always missed their targets if they were human beings. Sometimes they would get wounded or have to parachute out of a plane that was about to crash, but never was there a death in the cartoon (obviously, since it was for kids).

The comics actually moved one step forward when they proclaimed after 100 comics that they would actually “kill” a number of characters when they paralleled the first Gulf War.  I remember looking so forward to that comic to see who they would “kill off”.  In the end it was actually somewhat of a ruse, they ended up killing about 10 soldiers over the next few issues, but none of them were main characters and some were ever brand new ones who were created just to kill them off.  It was quite a disappointment.

But I digress…

I enjoyed this movie because it stands for everything that a GI Joe story should stand for; COBRA trying to take over the world with their advanced technology and ruthlessness and the Joe’s using their own advanced technology to stop them.  This movie used a few twists to modernize the idea, but all in all, I think they did a great job of creating a genuine GI Joe story.

BTW, the rappelling scenes are really really cool.

YO JOE!!!!

Bottom Line – Great nostalgia, great action movie. Plot is definitely befitting a GI Joe storyline. Recommended!

Rating – Globe Worthy
