“People just do the strangest things when they believe they’re entitled. But they do even stranger things when they just plain believe.” – Joseph Keenan
Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Jul 2013)
Brief Synopsis – Three teenagers get kidnapped by a group of religious fundamentalists after they seek to meet a woman for sex.
My Take on it – I just happened to find this movie while looking at Kevin Smith’s page on IMDB and after seeing it was so impressed that he was able to make such a great movie on a serious issue.
Kevin Smith has always been known for making comedies featuring twenty-somethings who smoke pot and are looking for direction in life. This movie shows that he can be a great director using different, more serious material.
Don’t get me wrong, I always enjoyed his movies, but they were all “light” movies and this one was so shocking to me because it was so “heavy”.
Great cast – John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Michael Parks, Kyle Gallner and Stephen Root.
Recommended.
Bottom Line – Kevin Smith has shown that he can make a great movie without using humor and tackle serious issues. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy
I always kind of wondered about this one, but I’ve never seen it. Might have to check it out.
