“It’s not what’s in a kid’s backpack that makes him dangerous, it’s what’s in his heart.” – Val
Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Jul 2013)
Brief Synopsis – A boy tormented the previous year by bullies in school, tries to cope with parents, teachers and classmates who no longer trust him.
My Take on it – Wow! I was really blown away with how powerful this movie was.
It’s a difficult movie to watch and I can’t say that I will run to see it again, but it was done extremely well. This movie came out during a time where teen violence in schools in America were escalating and this movie tries to find a reason for that fact.
It’s impossible to get a definitive answer as to why the phenomena of school violence has risen, but this movie shows how complex these situations area and also attempts to show that the blame can possibly be put on many known and unknown factors.
The play that the kids act in is a real play and it supposedly has helped save many potential kids from perpetrating numerous atrocities.
The acting is done very well mostly by unknown actors. Small pivotal roles are played by Tom Cavanagh and Janel Moloney as teachers.
As good as this movie was, I still felt something was missing.
Bottom Line – Amazingly done. Very powerful subject. Recommended
Rating – Globe Worthy
