“Hi everybody! Welcome to Art. *The* only class that will teach you how to survive. This is where you can find your soul, if you dare. Don’t ask me to show you how to draw a face. Ask me to help you find the wind.” – Mr. Freeman
Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Jul 2013)
Brief Synopsis – A young girl who suffered a traumatic event a few months earlier struggles during her first year in high school.
My Take on it – This movie was somewhat mediocre. I enjoyed a number of aspects of it like how they shows the passage of time during the year and how they are very vague throughout on the actual events of the trauma she suffers.
This is one of Kirsten Stewart’s first movies and she does a fine job of conveying the emotions that he character tries to repress throughout the year we observe.
She doesn’t speak out loud too much, but her narration gives us more than enough information on her life and on the lives of everyone around her.
Steve Zahn is a stand out among the actors as a gifted art teacher who tries to get his students to show their artistic sides.
Bottom Line – Great teenage coming-of-age story. Recommended
Rating – Globe Worthy
