Toy Story (1995)

ts“You uncultured swine! What’re you lookin’ at, ya hockey puck?” – Mr. Potato Head

Number of Times Seen – Too many times to count (Theater, DVD, 8 Aug 2013)

Brief Synopsis – A cowboy doll named Woody must decide what to do when a new spaceman toy joins the group of toys in a young boy’s house

My Take on it – I have always enjoyed animated movies and this is one of my favorite ones.

This was Pixar’s first full-length animated movie and they did it so well.

When I saw this in the theater with a friend of mine, we were both amazed at how many references there were to toy’s from our own childhoods.

The most relevant reference to me was with the toy soldiers. The one who gets stepped on (sorry, spoiler alert) was the “miner” and he could no longer stand up. That figure was always the first one to get ruined and would always fall down. 🙂

It seemed as if the employees at Pixar had so much fun making it because it drew on their own childhood experiences to create a movie that “kids of all ages could enjoy”.

For a first movie from a studio, they were able to get many talented actors to do voice work and ever since, they have already managed to continue to find top voice actors for all subsequent Pixar movies.

Voice talents of – Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, John Ratzenberger, Wallace Shawn, Annie Potts and R. Lee Ermey

Followed by two sequels [Toy Story 2 (1999) and Toy Story 3 (2010)]

Bottom Line – Amazing movie. Lot’s of references for most people who grew up with toys in the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s.

Rating – Oscar Worthy
