“Whatever is about to follow, whatever this grand trick is, is really going to amaze. Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you’ll actually see.” – Thaddeus Bradley
Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Aug 2013)
Brief Synopsis – 4 magicians find a way to rob a bank while on stage during a performance.
My Take on it – This is a movie that I have been waiting to see for quite some time.
I am finally glad that I did because it just blew me away.
This movie is all about whether you can believe what you eyes see or are you being deceived. The idea that is well known about the magician’s assistant is very true about this movie. They are there to distract you. No matter how close you look at something make sure you try looking at what the magician doesn’t really want you to see.
The four magicians (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isle Fischer and Dave Franco) are all very charismatic in this film. The characters are fleshed out enough to give each their own distinct personality and although we don’t understand why they are working together we see that they work well together.
Mark Ruffalo is great as the obsessed FBI agent trying to catch them while they are committing a crime and Morgan Freeman is wonderful as a former magician who debunks magic.
The twists and turns in the plot are expertly done and I think it is very well written.
This movie is definitely worthwhile seeing especially if you like the majesty of magic!
Bottom Line – Very well done movie. loved the plot, the characters and above all the theatrics! Highly recommended!
Rating – Oscar Worthy
Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂 I was disappointed but The Prestige is one of my all-time favorite movies so it was hard to not compare it to that…

I don’t know – it just felt a little empty to me. But I did like Melanie Laurent – I’d like to see her in more films.

she was very good here as she was in Inglorious Basterds (2009)
sorry that you didn’t like it so much .
But that’s the essence of opinion, we are have the right to decide what we like and what we don’t and there is never a right or wrong answer
