Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan (1982)

khan“He is intelligent, but not experienced. His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking.” – Spock

Number of Times Seen –  Too many to count (Theater, DVD, 2 Sep 2013)

Brief Synopsis – The crew of the Enterprise return to space on a training mission and end up meeting an old foe on a hunt to destroy them.

My Take on it – I saw this movie in the theater at the tender age of 8 and loved it.  I didn’t know much about the characters at the time and this was my first major exposure to it.  In my mind this is the definitive Star Trek voyage that all other movie and shows needed to live up to.

It has been a number of years since I last saw this, but I was immediately captivated by it’s storyline, characters and plot.  This movie truly was a Super episode of the original series and it gives the viewers a great chance to once again see the original cast in action.

Khan was a great choice as the baddie. I saw Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013) yesterday and then immediately saw the original Khan episode (Space Seed) and understood for the first time who and what Khan was.

The original cast are all great and it was fun to once again see them in action in the best of the original crews’ movies.

Ricardo Montalban is ruthlessly evil as Khan (even more so than in Space Seed.)

The special effects were cool and I love the score done by James Horner.

Bottom Line – Great Star Trek movie. One of the best. Great effects and music. Highly recommended!

Rating – Oscar Worthy
