The Terminator (1984)

index“Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.” – Kyle Reese

Number of Times Seen –  Waay too many times to count (cable, video, DVD and 23 Sep 2013)

Brief Synopsis – A cyborg is sent from the future to kill the mother of the resistance’s unborn future leader.

My Take on it – This is the movie that made Schwarzenegger a household name.  Beforehand, he was known as a world class bodybuilder and a two-bit actor in the Conan movies.  After this came out, he was a hot commodity who would go on to be the lead in far-too many action movies.

This was also the same movie that got James Cameron noticed.  He had directed two movies prior to this and had written both of them.  Neither was very good, but he definitely hit the big time writing and directing this movie.

Great sci-fi storyline.  This movie took the idea of time travel to a completely different level.

This movie was done very well  and is one of the few movies in my opinion that was actually surpassed in every aspect (acting, directing, story line, plot, action) by its sequel T2: Judgement Day (1991). (We can forget about the other sequels 😦 They weren’t as good as either of these.)

Guess it just goes to show that Cameron’s ideas for this got better 7 years later.

If you’ve never seen this. You definitely should!

Bottom Line – Great movie. Made Arnie a star and action movie fans are forever grateful.  Excellent Sci-Fi theme which was the beginning of many great sci-fi’s to come. Highly Recommended!

Rating – Oscar Worthy
