The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell (1955)

billy“Just because you read a lot of books about golf, doesn’t make you a good golfer.” – Admiral William S. Sims

Number of Times Seen – 1 (29 Sep 2013)

Brief Synopsis – True story about Army General Billy Mitchell, who was put on trial when he accused the army of neglecting the Air Force during the early 1920’s

My Take on it – Mediocre court room drama directed by Otto Preminger and starring Gary Cooper.

I had never heard of this event beforehand and was happy to see it’s dramatization, unfortunately the story isn’t as compelling as it should be.

Nice supporting parts by future who’s who of 1970’s tv stars Elizabeth Montgomery, Jack Lord, Darren McGavin and Peter Graves.

Ralph Bellamy, Charles Bickford and Rod Steiger also have supporting roles

Bottom Line – Mediocre dramatization.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
