“I’ve been waiting for this my whole life! I’m gonna be a scarer!” – Mike Wazowski
Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Oct 2013)
Brief Synopsis – A prequel to Monsters Inc. (2001) showing how opposites Mike and Sully first met and became lifelong friends.
My Take on it – This is the way to make a prequel!! I like how they take two characters that we all know well and show how their personalities clash and then we get to see what makes them best buds for the rest of heir lives. This movie even has a great lesson to be learned about how to get ahead in life.
Truth is that I wasn’t really expecting much from this movie. Monsters Inc. (2001) wasn’t the best Pixar film and not really one of favorites so I hoped that this would at least reach the bar of quality that Pixar has set over the years.
It completely surpassed that bar and I can say that this is perhaps IMHO one of the best Pixar movies EVER!!
They really did an amazing job in every aspect of the production: storyline, dialogue, animation and of course voice talents.
But the best part is definitely the character development and the notion that even “Monsters” have fears, which makes the characters seem even more human than one could imagine possible.
Lots of college type movie humor and I loved how they threw in so many other movie references (even two obscure ones that get a laugh parodying The Princess Bride (1987), one of my favorite movies.)
Billy Crystal, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi are back and they are joined y Helen Mirren, Alfred Molina, Nathan Fillion, Sean Hayes and Dave Foley.
John Ratzenberger is of course in the mix once again playing the Abominable Snowman.
This movie really has Heart and it shows throughout.
Bottom Line – Excellent addition to the Pixar cannon. Expertly done in every aspect. Highly Recommended!
Rating – Oscar Worthy
Yep! Great sequel (although it could never top Monsters Inc). Love love love Pixar. 🙂
