“Weirdness is not a criminal offense. If it were, you’d be serving a life sentence.” – Miranda Jeffries
Number of Times Seen – Too many to count (Lots of time on Cable, Dvd, 2 Jul 1999 and 13 Oct 2013)
Brief Synopsis – A man who dies in a car accident makes it to heaven and is accidentally sent back with his memory still intact which causes havoc when he meets his former family.
My Take on it – I loved this movie as a teenager and saw it so many times on cable.
We all have wondered on some level or another what happens once we die and this movie takes one of the possibilities and builds a fun romantic comedy around the theory of reincarnation.
I don’t wanna give away too much of the plot, but suffice it to say this movie takes this somewhat unique subject and has lots of fun with it.
The acting here is great; Robert Downey Jr, Mary Stuart Masterson, Ryan O’Neal and Cybil Shepard all shine in their respective roles.
Downey is especially good here and this being one of earlier movies, he was even able to show then how talented an actor he can be when he is sober.
This movie has great music and the theme song “After All” sung by Cher and Peter Cetera was nominated for an Oscar that year, but lost to The Little Mermaid (1989) song “Under the Sea”. Hear the song here.
Bottom Line – Fun rom-com. Great cast, intriguing story and great music. Recommended.
Rating – Globe Worthy
I love the song “After All” but I’ve never seen the film it’s from. Thanks for posting, I’ve added it to my LoveFilm list 🙂
