Mud (2012)

mud“Ellis, I’m serious! We don’t know who this guy is.” – Neckbone

Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Oct 2013)

Brief Synopsis – two young Arkansas boys befriend a stranger on a nearby island and learn many things about life, loyalty and love

My Take on it – I have been waiting to watch this movie for quite a few months and was completely drawn in during the first half.  The second half though felt too drawn out and perhaps even a bit boring because it wasn’t getting to where it wanted to go at a normal speed.

They could have cut out a few scenes which would have tightened the story and made it entertaining and gripping throughout.

This is definitely not your normal coming of age drama and I think it’s somewhat unique in the way it delivers it’s story.

The acting here is great and Matthew McConaughey shows that he can play complex characters and not just flashy lawyers, businessmen and lovers.

It was nice to see Reese Witherspoon, Joe Don Baker and Sam Shepard here in pivotal roles.

Obviously the stars here are the kids and both of them have already shown at their young ages that they can act, it remains to be seen what the future has in store for them based on their performances here.

Bottom Line – Well done movie, but slightly too long making parts feel drawn out. Recommended

Rating – Globe Worthy

    • it’s never too late. That’s whats great about movies in this day and age, you can never miss one (except maybe the theater experience, but it’s a rare movie these days that’s a must-see in a theater).
