“I don’t give up my gun without somebody gettin’ hurt.” – Jack Benteen
Number of Times Seen – at least 5 (numerous times on cable in late 80’s and 22 Oct 2013)
Brief Synopsis – A corrupt drug dealer and a band of six presumably dead soldiers on a top secret mission each must deal with a gutsy Texas Ranger.
My Take on it – As a teen, I watched this movie numerous times on cable and enjoyed it very much.
Upon re-watching it, I now realize that the plot is really weak and the movie itself is just not very entertaining or even coherent.
The one thing that I did like about this was Nick Nolte’s character. He is a badass Texas Ranger who doesn’t take crap from anyone and just wants to make sure things stay above the law.
Nolte lost a lot of weight for this movie and he doesn’t seem like the usual clown cop he plays in numerous other movies like 48 Hrs. (1982).
The army unit seems like a weak copy of the A-Team, especially by the way they are introduced
The Mexican Standoff at the end is one of the few things done well.
Bottom Line – Liked it better when I was a teenager, Storyline is weak and the action is too choppy.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
