“[quoting Thomas Edison] Many of life’s failures are people who do not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” – Tracey
Number of Times Seen – 1 (31 Oct 2013)
Brief Synopsis – A young man diagnosed with cancer goes on a road trip across Canada to try and make sense of life in general.
My Take on it – I think that this movie truly has a great premise, but just doesn’t deliver it well enough.
I was able to sympathize for the main character, but couldn’t find a way to empathize with him. I prefer to care about characters in movies, but I didn’t really care much for him.
Perhaps Canadians will enjoy this movie more than I did since during his road trip across Canada, he visits many Canadian landmarks.
The fact that none of us know how we would react to news that we are dying is a question that anyone you ask will have a different answer and this story is what one person would do.
I enjoyed the fact that they had Campbell Scott narrate this movie throughout and how every so often the narrator would give us information about minor characters and about what would happen to them after they parted ways with the main character.
Bottom Line – Great idea, just doesn’t really work well.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
