“Mr. Hastings, you know everybody around here: Can you tell us who is the dirty stinkin’ lowdown rat that shot our pa?” – Tom Elder
Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 Nov 2013)
Brief Synopsis – 4 sons of a recently deceased woman seek revenge upon the man who killed their father and stole his farm.
My Take on it – John Wayne made this movie to try and show that even at the age of 57 and after having part of his lung removed from cancer he could still make movies.
Unfortunately, the story here is pretty weak and having Wayne at the age of 57 and Dean Martin at the age of 48 playing the brothers of Michael Anderson Jr. who was 22 just seems too large an age gap for brothers.
It actually is laughable to think of that possibility.
I had expected Wayne to made better choices with scripts.
Small but important roles by then relatively unknowns George Kennedy and Dennis Hopper.
Bottom Line – Mediocre Wayne western. Story isn’t so interesting and Wayne and Martin are too old as the characters they portray.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
