“Maybe you have some kind of fantasy about helping a woman in a far away land.” – Gabi

Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Nov 2013)

Brief Synopsis – A young man travels to Romania following his mother’s death and gets involved with the seedy underworld.

My Take on it – This movie is a complete re-hash of many other films in the genre of “backpacker American student goes to Europe and somehow gets involved with European underworld and they will kill him if he doesn’t do what they say”.

Those movies usually show the protagonist in a somewhat positive view, but here Shia LeBeouf’s character is also shown as a dark and disturbed and that helps make this film unique.

Unfortunately, it’s not enough to make this movie interesting.

There are too many lulls in the narrative and I was tempted too many times to turn it off, but didn’t because I still had hope it would get better.

Suffice it to say, it didn’t and that was a disappointment. 😦

Bottom Line – Re-hash of typical visitor gets involved with European underworld type movies.  The difference here was that the tone was dark for all characters including the protagonist.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
