“Some people are worth melting for.” – Olaf
Number of Times Seen – 1 (8 Jan 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A princess and an outdoorsman go on a quest to find her sister in order to stop a spell that has caused an eternal winter on their kingdom.
My Take on it – Wow! What a great movie.
I was captivated throughout. It truly showed that Disney hasn’t completely lost its magic when it comes to creating memorable characters and storylines set as a “musical fairytale”.
This movie brings to mind the Disney greats of the 90’s [The Little Mermaid (1989) (OK, close to the 90’s), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1993), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995) Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), and Hercules (1997).] and it’s quite surprising that this movie was stuck in “Development Hell” for so many years.
The songs are great and have catchy tunes, the characters are fleshed out enough for us to feel we know them well and there are still numerous humorous lines to make you laugh.
My kids saw this movie last month with my wife and all 3 of them thoroughly enjoyed it.
Once again here is proof that Disney still knows how to make a multi-layered movie; fun for the kids, but still cerebral enough for adults to also enjoy.
The message here is about believing in yourself and your abilities no matter what anyone else thinks.
This is truly one of the Disney greats and I believe it’s the best animated film of 2013. (I have now added it to my 2013 Top Ten list. View it here.)
Bottom Line – The best animated movie of 2013 and Disney shows that they still have what it takes to make a great “musical fairytale” like they did so well during the 90’s. Highly Recommended!!
Rating – Oscar Worthy

Glad you and your family liked this one so much! I don’t think it’s quite on par with some of those ’90s movies–particularly those first four that you mention–but I did like this one quite a bit. Nice review! 🙂

Yes!!!!! Love this movie so much. But think it’s a lot better than 90’s Disney, which I found mediocre other than Beauty & The Beast. : )
