Welcome back to my Flashback Movie Challenge. The goal here is to re-watch movies from your youth that you loved back then and see if you and your “young self from yesteryear” can agree on your opinion of this movie or whether years of new perspectives have changed those feelings.
If you would like to participate in this, feel free to shoot me an email (rob@movierob.net) with your review so I can post it. It’s very important that you show the similarities or differences between the you of now and the you of then.
Good luck to all!!!! I look forward to seeing how we all fare.
To continue my challenge, I present you with my review of The Beastmaster (1982), this movie was one of my favorites growing up and I have very fond memories of it.
“Dar… the gods have put that mark on you, and someday, you’ll find out why. ‘Til then, this mark will be your guide. My sword and my caber will be your trusted companions. Protect Emur, your home. And if anything should happen to me, look for our enemies, the Juns… and you may search for your destiny in the Valley of Aruk.” – Young Dar’s Father
Number of Times Seen – Too many to count (Tons of times on cable and 14 Jan 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A young warrior who has the ability to communicate with animals tries to stop an evil priest from continuing to enslave the people.
My Take on it – I just don’t understand how or why I enjoyed this movie when I was a kid. It is sooo bad and sooo cheesy.
I don’t even have anything redeeming to say about this one besides the fact that the beautiful Tanya Roberts is in it and she’s without a shirt in one or two scenes and is scantily clad throughout.
I read that this movie was shown so many times on HBO that the channel was renamed by fans “Hey, Beastmaster is On”
I can’t really say tho that I expected an amazing movie here, but I had hoped it would be better than it turns out to be.
My memory here really pulled a fast one on me.
Bottom Line -Oh My God, this was horrible, I can’t believe I loved it so much back then. Definitely skip it!
Rating – Razzie Worthy
Overall, I’m not at all glad I re-watched this and think that in this case my younger self and me would totally disagree on this one.
