Welcome to my Flashback Movie Challenge. The goal here is to re-watch movies from your youth that you loved back then and see if you and your “young self from yesteryear” can agree on your opinion of this movie or whether years of new perspectives have changed those feelings.
If you would like to participate in this, feel free to shoot me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your review so I can post it. It’s very important that you show the similarities or differences between the you of now and the you of then.
Good luck to all!!!! I look forward to seeing how we all fare.
To continue my challenge, I present you with my review of The Dark Crystal (1982), this movie was one of my favorites growing up and I have very fond memories of it.
Now, on to the review…..
Brief Synopsis – Two Gelflings embark on a quest to save their world from the evil warlords The Skeksis.
My Take on it – This movie is really terrible. If Jim Henson wanted to sojourn into dramatic territory, this shouldn’t have been his choice in doing so.
The story is silly, the dialogue is horrendous and the “puppets” used seem so fake and disgusting.
This is a complete 180 degree turn from Henson’s masterpieces, the Muppets.
If the story had merit to it, I might have been able to forgive the other flaws, but when a movie goes nowhere very fast, little can atone for it.
Bottom Line – Jim Henson should have just stayed with light-hearted Muppet comedy. This just doesn’t work as a serious adventure/drama.
Rating – Razzie Worthy
Overall, I’m not so glad that I re-watched this and I think that in this case my younger self and me would completely disagree that this is an interesting and enjoyable movie.
