Escape Plan (2013)

Escape Plan Movie Poster“Last time they killed a guy in there, they let his body rot for three days. Oh, and they cancelled the prison dance.” – Swan Rottmayer

Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Jan 2014)

Brief Synopsis – When a professional security technician gets double-cross and gets stuck in prison he must team up with another convict in order to try and escape the most secure prison ever built.

My Take on it – I had expected that after more than 30 years as competing action movie stars Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger would be able to find a fun and interesting vehicle in order to work together.

Alas, it is not so….

This movie is a cross between the TV show Prison Break and the movie Sneakers (1992) (one of my favorite thrillers), but doesn’t work as well as either of them.

There are a few interesting plot ideas here, but overall it is pretty much a complete waste of time.  There is no reason to care about any of the characters and I was just hoping that it would end sooner than it did.

I truly hope that the next time Arnie and Sly decide to team up, I suggest they read the script first to see whether it is a worthy movie, cause this one surely isn’t.

Bottom Line – Expected something much better when Sly and Arnie teamed up, but it was not meant to be.  Not even an above average action movie.

Rating – Razzie Worthy

  1. Haven’t seen this, actually. Wasn’t in any hurry to do so, given the trailer was not good. Have seen some positive reviews, suggesting this is good, mindless fun, but your review is closer to the experience I expected.

If I ever see it, we’ll find out whether or not mine is more positive. 🙂

  2. That’s a shame. I wouldn’t say I was looking forward to seeing this, or indeed, expecting much but at least, I thought, it’ll be great seeing these two former “heavyweights” together. Sly Stallone is really making a career for himself through nostalgia – The Indestructibles, this and Rocky meets Raging Bull in Grudge Match alongside De Niro… If feels low on ideas, high on box office cash-in potential.

    • Thanks for stopping by and commenting Dan.

Yeah, my general feeling these days is that many movie are made to make money and they dont care anymore about plot, a script or even if the viewers will enjoy themselves 😦

Not really looking forward to Grudge Match for the same reason.
