Brief Synopsis – The continuing adventures of Katniss Everdeen as the President targets her due to her opposition to the yearly Hunger Games.
My Take on it – I actually enjoyed this one more than the original one because I understood the characters and the motivations much better.
The poster above says it all.
From a little spark, a revolution can begin and we see how Katniss is able to use her celebrity to try and light that spark.
Some of the new (and old) characters are quite memorable and the plot moves along very well.
I was disappointed how the movie ends because it just stops in the middle and has a cliffhanger that we now all need to wait another year to see it continued.
I wasn’t expecting that and I guess I wish I had read the books so that I wouldn’t have been caught as much by surprise.
The special effects here once again are superb and I once again enjoyed the merging of futuristic technology with weapons and fighting tactics from the middle ages, in a word, their world is done amazingly.
Bottom Line – Very good movie. Better than the first, but was disappointed at the cliffhanger. It will hopefully be fully realized once the next two movies are out. Recommended!

Definitely better than the first.
And this is actually my favorite ending of 2013. By a wide margin. Why? Because the principle story in this one is not the plot, the revolution, the games, or Panem. It is Katniss, and how she catches fire, how she becomes a revolutionary. The final shot leaves no doubt that Katniss has reached her zenith, that she is now angry and ready to fight.
In other words: sure, there is a plot cliffhanger. But the plot isn’t Catching Fire’s primary story – Katniss’ journey is. And Lawrence (the director) remembers to keep our focus on her, remembers to ensure we recall, first and foremost, how much she’s changed since the beginning of this movie. He doesn’t bog down his film with an overlong plot-based epilogue; he ends a character-based movie on the perfect character note.
The story of the revolution isn’t over yet. But the story of Katniss joining it is. And that was the whole point of Catching Fire.

Disappointed at the cliffhanger?! That’s the best part of the movie! All the emotions that go across Lawrence’s face…brilliant. Maybe you’ll give this an Oscar Worthy rating when you see Mockingjay. 🙂 Nice review!

I LOVED this movie! The cliffhanger disappointed you?! It is exactly how the book ended! When Mockingjay comes it will make more sense. I suppose if you read the books (as you say) it would not have shocked you so much. I was glad that they didn’t try and round it off some more, otherwise it would kill it. I must say this adaption from the book was just amazing and impressed the hell out of me. I mean I knew it would be good but WOW! I am glad to see that you enjoyed it, and definitely more than the first!
