Cedar Rapids (2011)

cr“Selling insurance is a business, it’s not a God damn Boy Scout troop.” – Dean Ziegler

Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Jan 2014)

Brief Synopsis – An insurance salesman goes to a convention and must find a way for his company to once again win an award for excellence that it has won for the last few years.

My Take on it – Ed Helms and John C. Reilly make this movie work.

Both of their characters have interesting quirks and they both find a way to still keep us entertained despite those quirks and also constantly give us the feeling that we want to continue to be in their company because they are just like us.

The plot here is pretty elementary, but since the characters are so engaging it doesn’t matter much.

My favorite character is probably Ronald who seems like your average boring insurance salesman until he really shows who he is.

Great supporting performances by Anne Heche, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Root and Kurtwood Smith.

This isn’t a movie where you have to do much thinking, but it is an entertaining one.

Bottom Line – Fun movie, but not too cerebral. Above average comedy for when you just want to chill out.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

  1. Good review. It’s a funny movie, that also happens to have its heart in the right place. Not memorable, but at least everybody is great, especially John C. Reilly who steals just about every scene he shows up in.

    • crude, but definitely a great character. JCR is a great character actor and can play such a wide range, it’s usually quite nice to see him in any movie because he knows how to stand out.
