“You’re right, it’s a classic kidnapping. They took our children and the canned goods and pasta.” – Frank
Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Jan 2014)
Brief Synopsis – The coming of age story of 3 teenagers who decide to run away from home and live in the woods.
My Take on it – I had heard a lot of great things about this movie including some comparisons to Stand By Me (1986), but it unfortunately falls a bit short of the expectations that I had.
I really liked the characters here and they are all developed extremely well that we understand each of their motivations for everything they do.
I liked how the story builds, destroys and rebuilds the characters relationships with their parent(s). The dialogue is smart and witty and I found myself laughing out loud many times during this serious movie.
This movie has numerous scenes that go places that you don’t expect and it is a very fresh and original take on the whole coming of age theme.
My favorite character is Frank (Joe’s father) he seems so real and we can see how conflicted he is also with his own situation and how he deals with the boys’ disappearance.
Bottom Line – Great coming of age movie with very witty dialogue and interesting characters. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy

This one falls a bit short for me, too. There’s a great movie in it somewhere, but I don’t think it ever quite comes to the surface. I was actually a tad surprised when I started seeing all of the overwhelmingly positive buzz it’s gotten on this blogosphere.
I was very intrigued by the fact that so many bloggers loved this and that was actually the impetus for me watching it. Like you, I didn’t think it was amazing, but there is something there just beneath the surface.
Thanks for commenting James
I don’t know this one either!!! Lol. Like the sound of it…
I’m starting to lose faith in you, my dear 🙂
