Number of Times Seen – 2  (2 April 2008 and 3 Feb 2014)

Brief Synopsis – The story of an assassination plot on the President told from the perspective of 8 different characters.

My Take on it – I am a big fan of this kind of movie.

I have always dreamed of writing a book (or screenplay) told from numerous perspectives that change what you know based on each story as you read them.

In the early 2000’s there was a TV show called Boom Town which also did that and what was cool about it was that each character has a different viewpoint on what happened and ultimately you only get the full story once you see all of them.

There are even numerous Star Wars books which did the same thing.  I read three anthologies about different locations within the original trilogy;  one about the characters from the Cantina in a Star Wars (1977), one about the Bounty Hunters in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and finally one about the creatures from Jabba’s Palace in Return of the Jedi (1983).  These anthologies are all part of Lucas’ Star Wars canon and the way that they are written tells you only parts of a story for each character.  When you read a story about another character it fills in the blanks.  Only once you read the whole book can you truly see the Big Picture.

That is essential the point of this kind of storytelling and I think it’s true to life.

Most of us only see what happens around us, but when someone else turns a corner, they might see something that we don’t.

This movie takes the story of an assassination plot and slowly builds the story as we see the viewpoints of each of the 8 characters.  By the end, we get to finally see the whole picture of what is really happening.

This movie definitely has star power behind it because it drew an amazing cast

Dennis Quaid, Sigourney Weaver, Forrest Whitaker, Bruce McGill, Matthew Fox, Ayelet Zurer, Edgar Ramirez, Zoe Saldana and William Hurt are all excellent here.

This movie is written very well since it keeps surprising us around every corner and makes us constantly  continue to guess what will happen.

Bottom Line – Love non-linear movies like this that want you to piece together the story.  Lots of thrills and surprises all the way until the end.  Highly recommended!

Rating – Oscar Worthy
