Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Feb 2014)
Brief Synopsis – In a futuristic society where chaos is rampant, police are now judge, jury and executioner
My Take on it – I avoided this movie since I truly hated the Sylvester Stallone version from the ’90, but saw a favorable review of it earlier this week and decided to give it a try.
Wow, this movie is really action packed!
Lots of blood and shooting and the plot is quite simple; make it to the top of an apartment building to catch the head bad guy while people are trying to kill you on every floor.
That plot actually sounds very familiar since just recently I saw another movie with the same idea – The Raid: Redemption (2011).
Both writers claim that they didn’t know about the other and never read anything about the other that would influence their movie.
That’s quite amazing because of the similarities between the two, but anywaaay, both worked, so who cares really.
Karl Urban is great as Judge Dredd. I recently started to watch the show Almost Human and have grown to liking him.
A sequel will probably never be made because it wasn’t a success at the theater, but it seems to now have a nice cult following.
Definitely a fun movie if you want to just check your brain at the door.
Bottom Line – Interesting action movie that is eerily similar to The Raid: Redemption (2011), and is also done quite well. Recommended
Rating – Globe Worthy

Good review Rob. Though I did appreciate what Urban wanted to do with this re-boot, I can’t say it was all that perfect. Still, I look forward to seeing what the sequels look like, if they ever do come around the bend.

Thanks Dan,
Very few movies are perfect, but I think this accomplished what it set out to do. I’d love to see what they would do if they ever decide to make a sequel.

I believe the writers didn’t know of each other. This simultaneous ‘thing’ happens in other fields too. Like science and art. Don’t ask me for examples though! I think ideas are floating around in the . . .what? The ether or something. So if you have an idea, act on it before someone else grabs it. Think I’m nuts? You’re not alone. 🙂

I do believe it. I work in a field that is connected to scientific discoveries so I know that stuff like this really does happen.

yes, it was quite fun. She is much better here and in The Purge (2013) than in GoT. (maybe it’s b/c she’s a blonde there and truly evil 🙂
