Brief Synopsis – James Kirk’s enemy Khan is back and wants to do nothing but kill his old nemesis!
My Take on it – This is a movie that I loved as a kid being teh sci-fi geek taht I was. I saw this movie in teh thetaer at the young age of 8 and so many times on cable afterwards.
It has imprinted a great image on my mind that will hopefully never fade.
The crew of teh Enterprise is back and for the first time there is a real space battle and we get to see the characters in action instead of just a cerebral confrontation.
The choice of Khan as their adversary was a very wise one since it was possible to use him as the ultimate arch-enemy of Kirk.
Additionally, the choice of Khan was done because of the aging of the characters no longer allowing William Shatner to fight in hand to hand combat, so a space battle followed by a cat and mouse chase in space make for a very cerebral and entertaining movie.
I truly believe that the success of this movie led to the continuation of this series since the first was a bit of a disappointment.
The theory that the even numbered ST movies are the better ones definitely holds up here since this is quite possibly the best of the original Star Trek movies.
Bottom Line – One of the best Star Trek movies proving that a sequel can be better than their original. Nice to see the cast back in top form. Highly recommended!
Rating – Oscar Worthy (no change from original review)
