“Damn it, Bones, you’re a doctor. You know that pain and guilt can’t be taken away with a wave of a magic wand. They’re the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don’t want my pain taken away! I need my pain!” – Kirk
Number of Times Seen – at least 3 times (Theater in 1989, video and 20 Mar 2014)
Brief Synopsis – The crew of the Enterprise must try to stop a Vulcan terrorist who has taken numerous Federation ambassadors hostage.
My Take on it – Having seen all of the movies in the Star Trek franchise, I truly believe that this one is the weakest of them all.
The plot of this movie is very incomplete and the story seems to just skip around never filling in the blanks.
I recall being very frustrated about that when I saw this in the theater on the day it premiered in 1989.
I also remember who I saw it with and under what circumstances.
I was in 9th grade and in one of my classes, I had a personal tutor along with another student named Jack. He was always a bit weird, but we both loved to talk about movies so it worked well.
We both wanted to see this when it came out, so we rode our bikes about 2 miles to the theater called The Prudential in the suburbs of Detroit to see it.
My “friend” Jack was arrested and convicted a few years ago of murdering two people, so I obviously have very mixed feelings about my memories of him.
This was terribly directed by William Shatner.
Not surprisingly, this movie fits the theory that the odd number movies in the franchise suck.
Regardless, I only really recommend this movie for people who are interested in seeing all of the Star Trek movies or for those who want to hear Kirk and crew sing Row Row Row Your Boat. 🙂
Bottom Line – IMHO this is the worst Star Trek movie of the whole franchise. No plot what so ever. Only for die hard Star Trek fans!
Rating – Razzie Worthy

Man, you were much kinder than I was. No real surprises, but this was also written by Shatner.
