“It’s impossible to worry about anything else when there’s blood coming out of you.” – Grace
Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Mar 2014)
Brief Synopsis – Staff members at group home must deal with the numerous troubled kids while trying to find their way through their own complicated lives.
My Take on it – I don’t know much about troubled youths, but this movie seems to give an accurate portrayal of what it must be like for them at different points in their lives.
First we have the kids who are being cared for in the group home. They all have their issues and we see how they try to deal with them in their own ways by working with and off the other kids with similar problems.
Next we have their “advisers” who are just people trying to help these troubled kids however they can. It turns out that a number of these “advisers” were themselves troubled like these kids and we understand their motivation for wanting to help even more than before.
The camera movements here make the viewer feel like they are right there with the characters giving the story an even more intimate feel.
The cast is almost completely unknown which helps us believe the story even more. Brie Larson is definitely a standout as the main character who herself is very complexly created.
The subject matter is very intense, but handled properly
Bottom Line – Nicely done in a way that makes you feel as if you are watching it really happen. Great acting by the largely unknown cast. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy

The type of raw, realistic drama every movie strives for, but never quite hits as well as this one does. Good review.
