Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Mar 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A young couple move to a rural town in the South and begin getting harassed by the locals.
My Take on it – I have always been a big fan of Rod Lurie’s work.
I love The Contender (2000), Deterrence (1999) and The Last Castle (2001) and was a big fan of his TV show Commander in Chief with Geena Davis, but this movie has got to be the worst one that he has been a part of.
The movie is based on a thriller from the 1970’s that was made into a movie starring starring Dustin Hoffman, who himself has stated that he hated the movie.
I didn’t feel any sympathy for any of the characters except in one scene where I felt for Kate Bosworth but besides that I didn’t care what would happen to any of them. I think this is because none of teh characters are developed very well and they all seem to be just stereotypes which is unfortunate. 😦
This story is just too “busy” and that causes the viewer to be distracted during many scenes and then they take everything and try to piece them together for the finally which also seems too discombobulated.
I can’t say I liked this a lot, but I can see that it was trying to go in the right direction and in the end we just get a sub-par movie.
Bottom Line – Rod Lurie’s worst screenplay IMHO. Too many things going on make the movie a bit confusing and then it all gets meshed together at the end. Very mediocre at best.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
