Number of Times Seen – Between 5-10 times (Theater, Video, DVD and 25 Mar 2014)
Brief Synopsis – The Crew of the Enterprise must travel back in time to stop The Borg from attempting to assimilate the planet Earth in 2063.
My Take on it – This is by far my favorite of all of the Star Trek movies from TOS and TNG.
The action is at a higher level than in all of the others and it also delves into many philosophical questions about life, dreams, the past and of course the future.
This movie also brings back one of the most formidable enemies; The Borg.
Having seen the episodes where Picard had been a prisoner of The Borg helps to understand this movie a bit, but I think that even for those who have little to no knowledge of them can grasp the idea fairly easily based on how this movie explains things.
I loved the idea of having people from the distant future travel back in time to a place still far ahead of the present so that to them it’s the past, but to us it’s also still the future. This lets them still play with history because the viewer isn’t aware of the “real” history.
I remember seeing this one in the theater and being so excited about it because the coming attraction trailer was amazing.
I also love the music done by Jerry Goldsmith. It is an amazing score. Hear it here.
Once again a Star Trek movie has strong literary parallels. This time to Moby Dick and Ahab’s obsession with finding that White Whale.
This movie is directed by Jonathan Frakes following in the tradition of having a cast member direct.
Bottom Line – One of the best Star Trek movies. Great story, great plot and also great score. Highly Recommended!
Rating – Oscar Worthy
