Number of Times Seen – 3 times (21 May 2003, 2007 and 25 Mar 2014)
Brief Synopsis – The Enterprise crew must deal with a Romulan threat on The Planet Earth when they are dispatched to negotiate a peace with them.
My Take on it – The final voyage of the cast of TNG on screen is not as good as any of the others.
The movie shows how life (and Starfleet careers) move on even after so many years together.
It also does a good job of giving closure to numerous storylines that has been touched upon during the 15 years that we have known this cast.
Tom Hardy is actually a formidable nemesis in this movie because of his character’s past. Little did we all know that he would become an ever more formidable enemy to Batman in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) ten years later.
The problem with this movie is that there are a few themes that aren’t explained very well and make the viewer feel that something is missing.
Eventhough this one was an even numbered Star Trek movie, it is the weakest of the ones with the cast of TNG. It was nice that they ended it before it got even worse
I have read that numerous cast members have complained about the way Director Stuart Baird helmed this film. They believed that he purposely tried to “tank” this movie because he didn’t like or understand Star Trek at all.
Regardless, the fact that this movie made so little money in the theater made this the final voyage of TNG and we all had to wait another 7 years for the next movie to come pout. Thankfully Star Trek (2009) was able to reinvigorate the franchise.
Look for two small cameos by Wesley Crusher (YAY!) and Guinon who have been sorely missed for years.
Bottom Line – One of teh weakest Star TRek ovies, but ends the voyages of TNG crew properly. Recommended!
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
