“Marriage is like that show Everybody Loves Raymond, but its not funny. All the problems are the same, but you know instead of all the funny, pithy dialogue, everybody is really pissed off and tense.” – Pete
Number of Times Seen – at least 3 times (21 Jun 2007, 2009 and 2 Apr 2014)
Brief Synopsis – After a drunken one nightstand an Entertainment reporter gets pregnant and tries to make it work with the bum who impregnated her.
My Take on it – This is a movie that I enjoyed much more the first time that I saw it than I did this time around.
To me, Judd Apatow’s movies are usually either hit or miss and this one isn’t either because I think there are too many scenes that don’t work, but the ones that do really hit it out of the ballpark.
I think the choice of Rogan to play this character was good, but he got so annoying in certain scenes that I just couldn’t understand why Heigl’s character wanted to be with him. On the other hand, he acts so differently in other scenes that you can understand why she would want him. It felt as if he really was a schizophrenic and I’m not 100% sold on the chemistry between the two of them.
My favorite Apatow movie is still The 40-Year Old Virgin (2005) and I think he will always have a hard time topping that one.
The supporting cast here is amazing and I laughed a lot whenever Rogan would sit around with his friends because most of it was completely ad-libbed by the actors themselves it felt like they were having natural conversations about movies. (who among us movie lovers can’t like that?)
Apatow did a great job here of showing the ups and downs of life when having a baby and since he based a lot of this movie on personal experiences with wife Leslie Mann the situations and dialogue sound and seem real.
This movie reminded me of some experiences my wife and I had before our daughter was born two years ago, so it was funny watching it on screen.
My favorite scene of the movie is of course the Fantasy Baseball one since I am an avid Fantasy Baseball Manager and this is by far the best reference to that hobby in any movie.
As with any Apatow movie, be forewarned that the dialogue and content is not for kids and can get very dirty.
Bottom Line – Has some funny lines, the chemistry between Rogan and Heigl really isn’t there and Rogan can be quite annoying in certain scenes. Apatow does portray pretty well what couples go thru when having a baby.Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy

I think there are better ones, but this one was pretty decent IMHO. It’s better the first time you see it.

The 40-Year Old Virgin is my favourite Apatow movie and I completely agree with you that it will never be topped. I saw it 4 times in theatres! And I an pretty much quote it word for word. Knocked Up is kinda funny at first, but doesn’t have a lot of re-watchability. Great review!

I think I’m gonna re-watch that one soon also. Watching this made me think of that and it cant hurt to re-watch a good movie anyway.
Wow! 4 times in the theater, don’t think Ive done that for any movie besides Return of the Jedi (1983) which I saw 17 times in the theater.
Very impressed with you on that Smash!
