“I’d like to thank you all for coming to my wedding. But first I’d better go in there and propose to the girl. ” – Gaston
Number of Times Seen – At least 5 times (Theater in 1991, video and 2 Apr 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A young prince is changed into a monster and must find true love before his 21st birthday in order to regain his humanity.
My Take on it – In the early 90’s, Disney was on the rebound after The Little Mermaid (1989) came out and this movie was the follow up that proved that Disney’s resurgence wasn’t a one movie fluke.
The animation is one step up from the animation people were used to up until then and was the precursor for the way PIXAR movies were made. The scene of the dance is an amazing example of a piece of visual animation.
This movie has the distinction of being the first entirely animated movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar – Only 2 more have reaped that kind of unique nomination since then – Up (2009) and Toy Story 3 (2010). This movie was also the first fully animated feature to win Best Picture – Comedy/Musical from The Golden Globes.
The musical score and songs by Alan Menkin and Howard Ashman are amazing and they deservingly won Oscars for the score and for the title song.
The story is great and I enjoy the message that it gives. This movie is fun for kids and adults alike (as most Disney movies are)
This is truly one of Disney’s best animated movies.
Bottom Line – One of Disney’s best, deservingly got the first Animated Best Picture Nomination. Great story and message. Highly recommended!
Rating – Oscar Worthy

I think you may be right Cara! I’m slightly more partial to Aladdin because it’s funnier, but the animation and story here are amazing!
