Alice in Wonderland (1951)

alice in wonderland“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn’t be, and what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see? ” – Alice

Number of Times Seen – too many to count  (cable, video in the 80’s and 24 Apr 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A young girl travels to an enchanted world called Wonderland where she meets many strange and curious creatures.

My Take on it – We all know the story of Alice in Wonderland.  We are all familiar with The Queen of Hearts, with the Mad Hatter, with the white rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum and of course The Cheshire Cat.

So Walt Disney took Lewis Carrol’s classic tale and made a very good animated film of the story including all of it’s psychedelic narrative that many believe is an allusion to drug use.

At the time, special effects weren’t like they are now and the best way to make a film set in Wonderland was via animation.

Disney’s account of the story was able to bring Carrol’s story to life in a way never shown before on screen.

This movie showed the endless possibilities when using animation and is a timeless classic!

Bottom Line – A very well done Disney film. Great animation and a very psychedelic storyline. Highly Recommended!

Rating –Oscar Worthy
