Brother Bear (2003)

Brother Bear Poster“If the snow’s white, then it’s all right. Yellow or green, it’s just not clean. I learned that one the hard way.” – Koda

Number of Times Seen – 1  (1 May 2014)

Brief Synopsis – When a young Inuit boy kills a bear, he is miraculously turned into a bear as punishment.

My Take on it – In my quest to watch all of Disney’s animated features, I came across this movie that I had never seen or even heard much about.

The story is your typical Disney redemption story with a slight magical twist to it.

I actually don’t have anything bad or good to say about this movie because it’s a standard animated story and therein lies the problem.  We have grown accustomed to trying to find the unique and brilliant aspects of every new movie that comes out and when there isn’t anything new, we tend to just think of the movie as mediocre.

There are a few of the usual funny sidekick characters and the message of the movie focuses on saving wildlife and the environment.

The music by Phil Collins is also just OK here.  It isn’t nearly as catchy or inspiring as the one’s he did for Tarzan (1999) 4 years earlier.

Bottom Line – Pretty mediocre Disney movie.  Has some standard humor and also a message about the environment and wildlife.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

  2. I’d have to agree with you here, Rob, spot on. And having loved Phil Collins’ work on Tarzan, I was really looking forward to this, but felt a little disappointed.

    • Since I had never seen this til now I had hoped the music would be great but it pretty much disappointed me that it didn’t live up to previous Disney standards . Appreciate you stopping by and commenting V!

      • No probs Rob, I’m slowly working through the backlogs, I’ll get there eventually! As for Tarzan, really enjoyed it, I think though the music was the best aspect of it for me.
