“True. I was their number one son, and they treated me like number two. ” – Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin)
Number of Times Seen – Too many to count (Twice in theater in 1992, cable, video, DVD and 13 May 2014)
Brief Synopsis – Batman must now deal with the Penguin and Catwoman who are trying to overtake Gotham via political moves
My Take on it – Tim Burton returned to the directors chair and gave us a fitting sequel to his world of Batman.
This time he cast Danny Devito (perfect) as the Penguin and Michelle Pfieffer (Puuurfect) as Catwoman.
They both do fine jobs as the villains, but I think the movie went slightly a bit too far with the innuendos and the biblical references here (Baby in a basket in the river? kidnapping the first born sons of Gotham?)
Neither of these foes seem like big threats to Batman, so it felt strange compared to The Joker, but the movie was fun regardless.
My favorite bit of trivia about this movie is the fact that Devito needed to sit in makeup for 3 hours a day for his role, being a movie buff, he brought in a TV screen and a mirror and watched his favorite movies every day via the mirror while they prepared his make-up.
I read that piece of trivia in the newspaper in 1992 and never forgot it because it sounds like something I would do. 🙂
Bottom Line – Very fun sequel, Devito and Pfieffer are very good here, but their characters are not the best foes for Batman. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy

I am a HUGE fan of this one. Granted, Batman wasn’t necessarily REALLY the central focus of this, but that was ok. I loved the costume design, Pfeiffer is THE BEST CATWOMAN OF ALL TIME and DeVito was a great Penguin. I loved this, and I am glad to see that you enjoyed it, too. Really only your first time watching this?!

I always find Penguin being so revolting in this one. There’s one part that I always thought was just so disgusting. But I do like this one a lot. It probably has to do with the girl crush I have on Michelle Pfeiffer 😉

I think we were supposed to be repulsed by him. That’s part of the dark humor of burton.
Nothing like Michelle in tight leather I guess. 😀

Michelle doing crazy is pretty good, no? Best example would be White Oleander. Such a great actress!
