The Dark Knight (2008)

 dark knight

“[to Reese] Let me get this straight, you think that your client, one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante, who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands, and your plan is to blackmail this person? [Reese’s face falls and Fox smiles]Good luck.” – Lucius Fox

Number of Times Seen – at least 5 times (Twice in Theater including opening Day, DVD, Jun 2012 and 13 May 2014)

Brief Synopsis – Chaos erupts in Gotham and the city must look to it’s two knights (Batman and the new DA, Harvey Dent) to lead it from Darkness.  Things get worse when a new criminal mastermind named The Joker starts to terrorize the city.

My Take on it – With his second movie in his Batman FRanchise, Christopher Nolan just floored everyone.

Everything works beautifully in this movie.

I recall that I clocked out of work early on opening day to go see it and by the time I returned to my office 3 hours later to continue to work, I was prevented from working because I was still shaking from the intense movie experience that I had just encountered.

The sound, the music, the story, the dialogue, the cinematography and everything else were all amazing.

This was probably one of the most intense and amazing moviegoing experiences of my life that I had to go see it a second time the following week.

This is perhaps the best superhero movie ever made and nothing has been able to top it since IMHO.

The cast is once again perfectly chosen and the obvious standout is Heath Ledger as The Joker.  He got so into his role that many people claim that he accidentally overdosed because of the effect this role had on him.

He easily took home a best supporting actor Oscar for this role (being only the second actor to win posthumously).

This movie should have also at least gotten a Best Picture nomination and the fact that it was left out led to the Academy revamping its stem the following year to allow for more than 5 nominees.

I believe Nolan will one day achieve that goal and get a Best Director and Best Picture Oscar if he continues to make movies like he has until now.

Bottom Line – Excellent movie.  IMHO, the best Superhero movie ever made.  Everything is done amazingly by Nolan and crew. Ledger really took on the role and perhaps even lost his own life in the process. Highly Recommended!

Rating – Oscar Worthy
