Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

chitty_chitty_bang_bang_xlg“I don’t trust a man who makes toys in a land where children are forbidden.” – Childcatcher

Number of Times Seen – who knows? (numerous times as a kid and 1 Jun 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A widower inventor creates a car with wondrous abilities to please his children.

My Take on it – Certain movies that we loved in our youth should probably stay in that deep warm part of our memories.

As a kid, I saw this movie numerous times and my memories tell me that I enjoyed it very much at the time.

Unfortunately, upon re-watching it as an adult, I can’t help but feel that this seemed like a mediocre replica of Mary Poppins (1964).

The story is super silly and makes little sense and even the great Dick van Dyke wasn’t able to save this one.

The one redeeming point that I can see from this movie is the music itself.  The songs and theme are very catchy and eventhough I didn’t enjoy this movie so much, they are still stuck in my mind.

Hard to believe that this was based on a story written by Iam Fleming (the creator of James Bond)

Bottom Line – Bit disappointing based on my great childhood memories of this movie.  Catchy songs, but the story is not so great. Mary Poppins (1964) was much better.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
