“Choice is an illusion created between those with power and those without. ” – Merovingian
Number of Times Seen – 2 (8 Jun 2003 and 10 Jun 2014)
Brief Synopsis – Neo and the other leaders of the rebellion against The Matrix must try and stop an attack on their home city of Zion
My Take on it – This movie tried to expand on the Matrix universe as we already know it from the original movie and it succeeded on some levels and failed on others.
One of the reasons that the first one was so successful was that it constantly challenged the viewer with out of this world special effects and with great philosophical questions and we were never bogged down with questions about how society is working.
They should have left that up to our imaginations because I believe the weakest parts of this movie are the scenes involving everything going on politically and functionally in Zion.
The truth is: Who really cares????
We all went to see this sequel because of the mind boggling feats of the first one and that’s all we really wanted to see.
Who needs to see Raves in Zion or forms of promiscuity (OK, some will be looking for that), but ultimately the scenes that work better are the one that tale place in The Matrix itself as our heroes are trying to figure out what is going on and also what is going to happen.
The action scenes here are not as novel as the ones in the previous chapter, but they do add some very cool effects like The Twins and ultimately the chase on the highway was done extraordinarily well.
The last 3rd of the movie waxes very philosophical, so I suggest that you try and pay close attention so that you don’t get confused as to what is happening!
If I were to watch this again, I think I’d just fast forward thru the parts with Zion and just stick to everything happening outside of that soon to be besieged city.
Bottom Line – Nice continuation of the story, but towards the end it gets into dangerously confusing territory. The action sequences (especially on the highway) are amazingly done! Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy

I really thought this was a well-done sequel but I have to concur that some of the shots of Zion are a little tiresome after awhile. There’s definitely a very heavy continuation of the species kind of message trying to be sent, that Zion represents the last stand humanity is making before the machines take everything.
But the movie is a bit bloated and the action scenes aren’t quite as fresh. Still, I think it is a worthy follow-up.

I honestly don’t remember much of this one. Maybe it was because it was above my comprehension and it just didn’t register or maybe it just didn’t strike my memory because for very different reasons, the first and the third stuck in my memory more.

both 2 and 3 didn’t stick in mind too much, but thats because neither is anywhere close to being as amazing as the original was.
