“A man can live a good life, be honorable, give to charity, but in the end, the number of people who come to his funeral is generally dependent on the weather. ” – Alan Burnside
Number of Times Seen – 2 (28 Apr 2009 and 12 Jun 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A reporter strives to keep the name of a source secret when a federal prosecutor challenges her.
My Take on it – I have always been a big fan of Rod Lurie because he writes political thrillers so well. My favorite movie of his is The Contender (2000), followed very closely by The Last Castle (2001).
He does an excellent job of creating opposite characters who vehemently fight one another via the crisp, intellectual and engaging dialogue that he is so adept at writing.
Kate Beckingsale, Matt Dillon, Vera Farminga, Alan Alda, Noah Wyle, Angela Basset and David Schwimmer are all great here and we believe everything that their characters go thru.
The journalistic ethics questions raised in this movie are so thought provoking.
This movie’s idea is partially based on the whole Valerie Plume Affair.
Bottom Line – Another great political movie by Lurie. Amazing script that reels us in throughout. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy
