“You guys gonna listen to Garry? You gonna let him give the orders? I mean, he could BE one of those THINGS!” – Windows
Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Jun 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A group of researchers in Antarctica encounter an alien who has the ability to take on any shape it chooses.
My Take on it – This is another movie that I have avoided for so many years on purpose.
The premise seemed to me to be too heavily weighted as a horror flick and I’m not such a fan of the genre.
After having watched it, I can’t understand why it would be in the IMDB 250 (let alone currently at 163). I CAN understand tho why this movie would have a cult following.
I think part of what somewhat ruined it for me was the lackluster special effects which have advanced so much in 32 years, but even when comparing this to other movies with special effects from the early 80’s this seems like they did a very shabby job at the effects.
The story itself is a typical horror based story; the enemy tries to separate each and every character so it can kill them one by one.
Not really my kind of movie, but still glad I finally saw it.
Bottom Line – I can see how this could be a cult classic, but I personally wasn’t too impressed with it. It’s possible that that’s due to the fact that special effects have advanced so much in the 32 years since this came out.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
