Boogie Nights (1997)

boogie-nights“Before you turn around, you’ve spent maybe 20, 25, 30 thousand dollars on a movie.” – Jack Horner

Number of Times Seen – 3  (4 May 2000, dvd and 24 Jun 2014)

Brief Synopsis – The rise and fall of a teenager who becomes a succesful adult film star in the late 70’s\early 80’s

My Take on it – This was one of the first movies made that depicted the life of people in the adult film world in a straightforward manner.

I think that this movie would have been much better had it had more of s centralized plot. Instead, it’s just all over the place trying to tell too many stories all at once.

Some of characters are interesting, but ultimately their development is so lacking that we dont know whether to care for or pity them. Which is quite unfortunate.

Yes, the adult film world of the late 70’s seems to be a very dark one that led people down paths that are difficult to recover from.

Bottom Line – Movie doesn’t have much of a standard plot and makes the viewer constantly wonder what the point is besides showing the dark world that these people are sucked into with little to no chance of getting out.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
