Hercules (1997)

hercules“I trained all those would-be heroes. Odysseus, Perseus, Theseus. A lot of “yeuseus.” And every one of those bums let me down flatter than a discus. None of them could go the distance.” – Phil

Number of Times Seen – at least 5 times (Theater in 1997, video, DVD and 23 Jun 2014)

Brief Synopsis – Disney adaptation of the story of the son of Zeus who must live his life as a mortal with superhuman strength.

My Take on it – As my regular followers already know, I’m quite a fan of Disney animation and this is another of my favorites.

They always choose great voice actors for the roles and their voices are what set the main tone throuhout. Tate Donovan, Danny Devito, Rip Torn, Matt Frewer and Bobcat Goldthwait and James woods are all excellent here.

The way ancient Greece is animated is truly spectacular and even the chorus make us believe that we are back in those times.

The music is done exceptionally well and I have always loved the main song Go the Distance. Both versions (the one in the movie and the one in the credits) are great but I still tend to enjoy the Michael Bolton one slightly more. Hear them both below:

Bottom Line – Another great Disney adaptation to add to their long list of successes. Great voice actors, great animation and of course amazing music. Recommended!

Rating – Oscar Worthy
