Godzilla (2014)

godzilla 2014 “You’re not fooling anybody when you say that what happened was a “natural disaster,”. You’re lying! It was not an earthquake, it wasn’t a typhoon! Because what’s really happening is that you’re hiding something out there! And it is going to send us back to the Stone Age! God help us all… ” – Joe Brody

Number of Times Seen – 1  (8 Jul 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A team of scientists track and attempt to stop creatures mutated by radiation when they show up on the US west coast.

My Take on it – I’m not
the biggest fan of monster movies and like there to be a plot besides a creature wrecking havoc on unsuspecting people and cities.

I had actually heard that this movie was pretty good, but people complained that Godzilla showed up too late in the game.

I had hopes when hearing that, that it meant that they would use the time beforehand wisely to develop the characters and the plot.

But alas, that didn’t happen.

The plot is close to non existant and we don’t care about any of the characters because they all seem like cookie cutter characters.

I truly hope that the planned sequel spends some time on plot and character instead of just destroying cities, but I’m not too optimistic about that happening.

The special effects and widespread destruction are done extremely well.

Bottom Line – A good start but I felt that the wait for Godzilla to show up should have helped plot and character development. Perhaps next time they’ll do it better. Cool destructive effects.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

  2. Good review Rob. I know a lot of people had a problem with this movie, but I really enjoyed myself with it. Even when it was only the human characters we had to spend time with. They weren’t perfectly-written, but at least the cast was talented enough to give it a try.

  3. Shame you didn’t like this one more. I can understand though–it’s definitely not the strongest plot. I had enough fun with it that I gave it a B+, but it could’ve been better for sure. Nice job, Rob! 🙂
